SSI Robotics develops and
manufactures custom robotic systems to perform adhesive dispensing and other operations
within a single work cell. We integrate industrial adhesive dispensing and curing equipment,
scara, cartesian and 6-axis robots, conveyors, indexing tables and other
equipment to create fully automatic, "Total Solutions" for our
customers. In addition to adhesive (epoxy, cyanoacrylate, anaerobic,
silicone...adhesive, glue and sealant) dispensing, our systems also perform automated assembly of parts,
machine vision inspection, press loading and unloading, precision meter mix,
packaging, etc.

Above Left: This
systems is one example of a semi-automated, custom, adhesive
dispense, cure and assembly system developed for a telecom
customer. The system accepts small parts, dispenses
UV-cured adhesive onto the parts, performs micropositioning of
each part within a few microns, then cures the parts in place
with UV light resulting in the completed
sub-assembly.
Above Right: This
system is one example of our fully automated, heavy industrial
dispensing capabilities. The system accepts layers of
material on an indexing table then uses a 6-axis UP50 Motoman
robotic arm to dispense adhesive according to downloadable
AutoCad paths. The adhesive dispense sub-system is
state-of-the-art with mass flow meters on every line, heated
dispense hoses and dispense ratios precision controlled within
1.5%. After dispensing onto many layers, the robot then
drops off the dispense valve, exchanges end-of-arm tools,
acquires the 40 pound laminated part fixture and loads the part
and fixture into custom presses which deliver several thousand
pounds of force while the adhesive cures (see video link in
upper right).

These include medical device fastening and bonding, electronics assembly, curing and drying for
automotive parts, assembly, bookbinding, photonic, fiberoptic,
semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, hot melt bonding
and sealing of containers and boxes, converting, food and beverage,
automatic furniture assembly,
molded plastic parts assembly and bonding, woven and nonwoven materials
handling, food packaging, pharmaceuticals, jewelry and various
industrial and consumer product fastening, bonding, gasketing and
sealing.
Capabilities and
Processes: System capabilities and processes include continuous bead dispensing along contoured
surfaces, followup bead inspection (using machine vision systems), pulse spraying, bonding with silver-filled epoxy, potting with UV cure adhesives and masking,
forming of gaskets, dispense of liquids such as ink, epoxy,
polyurethane, acrylic, various chemicals, thick high viscosity
pastes, frosting and viscous grease, dispensing from one-part
cartridges and five (5), ten (10) and 55 gallon drums, larger
bulk containers and pressure pots. Mixed materials and
uniform beads can be dispensed over a specified robotics path
following downloadable DXF and AutoCAD file paths. Systems
may use gravimetric or timed-pulse fluid dispensers for benchtop
(bench top) bonding operations and automated assembly lines for
structural bonding applications. Substrates may
include stainless steel or aluminum sheet metal, (fiber glass)
fiberglass reinforced plastic and composite materials, filters
(filter materials), molded
compound parts, glass, wood, cardboard, paper, etc. Systems
also perform press loading (press loaders / unloaders /
un-loaders, automatic pressing with heated presses) for curing of laminated
(layered) products.

Materials:

viscosity (highly viscous) plural components (2 part and 3 part)
adhesives with variable mix-ratios,
