Overview:
SSI
Robotics provides automation products and OEM equipment engineering /
manufacturing services for
the life science and industrial markets. SSI's core
product line is focused on laboratory automation. SSI
also provides services for large OEMs such as development, validation and contract manufacturing of medical devices, laboratory instruments and
equipment. The company provides general industrial
automation services as well. These areas each utilize the SSI
team's strengths in electrical/mechanical engineering, creative design, software
development, manufacturing, biology, medical/pharmaceutical processes, quality systems and regulatory
affairs. SSI is ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certified, GMP
Compliant and FDA Registered. The firm's certifications,
design controls and experienced staff enable the company to manufacture medical devices, hospital automation systems,
clinical diagnostic equipment, clinical trial automation systems and
other highly regulated products. The firm has a 600-machine
installed base with many systems in use and supported by the SSI team 24
hours per day, 7 days per week at Fortune 500 companies world
wide.
- Life
Sciences: SSI's FLASH, MINILAB
and QUICKSTACK lab automation products address a range of
processes in biotech (drug discovery) labs, clinical diagnostic
labs, research labs and hospitals. The systems are also used
in medical, pharmaceutical and clinical trial applications.
These products are designed as standard yet flexible platforms able
to address narrow, niche applications within the broader life science
market. Additional product variations and new
lab automation products are under development.

History:
SSI's history makes it uniquely suited for the life science/laboratory
automation market. Prior to forming SSI, Paul Smith, its founder, co-invented
The "Biojector" Needle-Free Jet Injection System
for Bioject Medical Systems, Inc. (US Patents 5,520,639, 5,399,163 and
5,383,851).
Paul also participated on development and manufacturing teams for
endoscopes and ultrasound devices at EndoMedix, formerly Baxter
Healthcare's Technology and Ventures Division.
SSI
was established in 1996, and originally focused on automation for
demanding, 24/7, semiconductor Automated Test Equipment or
"ATE". "SSI" stands for "SimmPro Systems,
Inc", our corporate name, which was chosen to reflect our original
focus on the "SIMM", or semiconductor memory board
industry. Through its work in the semiconductor industry, the
company assembled an exceptionally skilled and motivated engineering team
with expertise in the
areas of automation product development, equipment manufacturing,
mechanical/electrical engineering, software development, machine
control/machine vision/robotics, automation within controlled
environments (hot, cold, cleanroom, etc), instrument integration, and
global product service/support. This innovative team holds 3 patents (US Patents
6,218,853, 5,954,205 and 5,704,489) and
has additional patents pending. After succeeding in its
semiconductor niche, the company found that it could leverage its core
technologies to enter new markets. Extensive market analysis was performed to determine
the strength of future markets, and which markets would be most suitable
for SSI's skill set. The company selected Life Sciences as its primary
focus due to the founder's medical background, the
team's expertise in 24/7 automation systems, the firm's location in one
of the world's top medical device and biotech hotbeds, the cross-over
potential for its existing semiconductor products and the high projected
growth rates of the Life Science/Laboratory Automation Markets.
-
- SSI's portion of the Life Science market
includes pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biotechnology,
laboratory automation (for clinical, biotech and research labs), clinical trial process
automation, etc. The company supplemented its
engineering staff with a vast network of biologists, consulting scientists, regulatory affairs experts,
pharma and medical process experts, etc. to create a
"turnkey", "one-stop-shop" for life science
customers. The company found that its
diverse, industrial robotics background, combined with its intimate knowledge of medical,
biological and clinical processes, as well as its proximity to industry leading
customers and industry experts at university and research facilities
(UCSD, Scripps, CalTech, UCLA, USC, UCI...), resulted in a uniquely qualified combination
that is well received by the life science community. The company's life science business is growing
rapidly and the firm has developed an unparalleled
reputation for innovative products, robust design and conscientious customer support. Over
time, business
relationships have been formed with many of the top tier biotechnology,
pharmaceutical and medical device firms. During this time company has also
solidified key relationships and alliances with life science instrument
vendors and industry experts enabling it to address even the most
demanding bio/med/pharma projects. SSI Robotics now focuses all of its new product development efforts on the life
science/laboratory automation market (see Products), but still provides
automation services and contract product development / manufacturing services (see Services)
for Fortune 500 customers. If you have a project in mind that may be
a match for SSI...we'd like
to hear from you...Contact Us.

Our
Logo: Our logo emulates the shape of the DNA double helix to
reflect our focus on life science. Our company name
"SSI" can be seen with the legs of the helix representing the
"S's" and the white dot representing
the "i". The material is metallic to represent our focus
on automation and robotics. Lastly, the figure is reminiscent
of the "ying-yang" symbol to represent balance as well as the
"good fortune" that we strive to bring to our customers by
supporting their research and production
endeavors! |
